University of California was given a $200 Million grant to build the world's largest telescope, Thirty-Meter Telescope. The University already had $100 million, this will be the world's most expensive telescope as well. Currently, the largest telescopes
in the world are Gran Telescopio Canarias, Keck, Keck II and the SALT. The mirror alone in the telescope will be 30 feet in diameter. Source
